Left Leg and Ankle Fractures with Surgical Fixation - Medical Illustration, Human Anatomy Drawing
This stock medical exhibit portrays left leg and ankle fractures with surgical fixation in a series of illustrations. The first two illustrations show the post-accident condition, in which there are fractures of the fibula and comminuted, intra-articular fractures of the left distal tibia. A temporary external fixator is in place. The third illustration shows the first step of the fixation procedure, in which a 7-hole plate, screws and bone graft are used for fixation of the tibial fractures. The fourth illustration shows the placement of a syndesmosis screw through the fibula into the tibia for additional fixation. The remaining two illustrations show the appearance of the injured areas following open reduction and internal fixation: the 7-hole plate and screws, as well as the syndesmosis screw, are in place.
