This surgical exhibit consists of six illustrations on a single exhibit. rnThe first illustration shows the bones on the left ankle in an anterior view showing the hardware being removed. The malunion of the fibula is apparent, but the medial malleolus is intact.rnThe second illustration shows the cutting of bone of the tibia during the surgery. This illustration is drawn from the point of view of the surgeon doing the cutting and includes the surgical wound being held open with retractors.rnThe third illustration shows the bones of the ankle in an anterior view after the cuts of the bone have been made for the total ankle joint replacement. It points out that the bone was removed from the medial malleolus. rnThe fourth illustration depicts the bones of the ankle in anterior view with the joint replacement implant in place. The medial malleolus is illustrated as fractured.rnThe fifth illustration portrays the placement of the plate and five screws to repair the fracture of the medial malleolus. This illustration is drawn from the point of view of the surgeon.rnThe sixth illustration will shows the condition of the ankle joint on 11/3/11. This illustration is traced directly off of the radiology film. The valgus of the fibula, shifting of the talus and lack of purchase of the screws that were previously in the medial malleolus is portrayed.
