Lumbar Disc Injuries with Double Level Anterior Discectomy and Fusion - Medical Illustration, Human Anatomy Drawing
This stock medical exhibit begins with one sagittal (side cut-away) view of the lumbar spine clearly illustrating the disc herniations at both L4-5 and L5-S1. This image is based specifically on an actual pre-operative MRI. Also, several key steps of an anterior discectomy and fusion procedure are included. The steps begin with the creation of a midline incision made into the anterior abdomen exposing the L4-L5 and L5-S1 disc spaces. Next anterior osteophytes are removed at L5-S1 and the disc is removed at each level in it's entirety. The vertebral endplates are then removed with a curette and a BAK fusion cage is packed with allograft and inserted between L4-5 and L5-S1.
